I don't see how "Gone postal" is going to incite any negative feelings. I've seen much worse. It's your boat, just name it whatever you want.

Thas a good name, go for it. Plus good boat names that fit you are hard to come by. Once somthing comes to you and you like it. Stick with it. Doesnt seem like that person has any humor so you probably wont have them out on your boat any way, im guessing.

its not like your boss can fire you unless you actually do go postal nad even then i am not certain that would be a fireable offense in a government job...

If you like the name, use it. But, be for warned that your boss very well may hold it over you, if that is possible in a government job. When you get one less point on a review or get passed for a promotion, these are all things that are considered, not just the job well done.

Sometimes in life, we have to be a little more PC than we wish. That term has a negative connotation for many. When I saw that name, the first I thought was the rouge postal agent... Especially the one in OK back in the mid 80s. I would assume many other's will too.

I have a friend who sorts for the USPS. He still thinks the term Going Postal is rude and uncalled for. For me, I try to stay away from names or sayings that might invoke a negative feeling in people. In popular culture, I think it is an appropriate name.

My boat's name is "The Loon"...and I don't spend much time thinking about possible implications in a court of law regarding my sanity.

They are just boat names, not psychological profiles.

Also know a boat named "Deer Slayer" should he be worried about getting arrested for poaching?

I say name it whatever you desire you are the captain of your ship:D

It's your boat... it sounds like you are proud of the work you do, so i guess it's your call on how you want to represent that.

Personally.. going out on the water for me is an escape from my work life and all that's associated with it. A reference to my career/work would be the last thing I'd want on my boat.

FWIW, I think the name is funny. However. . .

It's a personal opinion, so I'll ask it as a question: How worried are you that the name of your boat might get around work and thus could be used by someone to hurt your career?

Personally, I keep my personal life far removed and detached from work. I learned that from my father who held a very high profile job and like it or not we were always in the spotlight. By necessity, he had to take great pains to avoid the appearance of anything in our family life that might be used against him at work.

It all depends on how concerned you are that something like this boat name could put a black mark in your file or could be used by someone at work who has an ax to grind.

During my time in the Air Force Reserve we had a gent who was a postal worker (twisted sense of humor btw). We were required to periodically requalify with the M-16 and after one of his requalifications he took his target back to his "day job" and taped it to the side of his desk. His boss didnt see the humor in it like the rest of us. I say its your boat, name it what you want. I have a small yellow runabout and call it "The Tub Toy".

Ok i'll be the devil's advocate.

I love it and think it's catchy.

However I will give you a TRUE piece of advise.

I hope nothing happens while you are operating your boat. If there a incident where you are implicated in a wrongful action a smart lawyer WILL use the name of your boat against you. Even though it has nothing to do with the implied meaning. There have been a few instances that the name of the boat was put into evidence implying the name of the boat was a extension of the inner mentality of the owner of the boat.

I know this sounds so far off the wall but it has happened. In this day and age everything is examined and scrutinized. You just can't be yourself anymore.

My boats have never had names. This is one of many reasons why.

i think it could be funny but i also have to state the other problems that could arise... in today society anyone will try anything to get ahead and i can see someone coming after you because you are promoting violence and death to federal employees. i know it not your intent but there a lot of bad apples out there..

Explain to your supervisor that it's nothing more than a reminder of how much you love your job, and you can't help but think about it when you're participating in one of your favorite avocations.

Re: Is this name inappropriate?

well, if your boss gives you any hassles about the name, do what most USPS workers would do....

SHOOT HER.

The day I care what my boss thinks of my boat's name is the day I jump off a bridge. Name it whatever you like.

I say go for it. Most boats have humor in the names anyways. besides I would rather have my kids reading that boat name than some of the others I have seen out there lol.

Since you work for the US Postal service, the name is good.

You take pride in a job well done and the U.S. Mail is awesome.

Nuts and flakes are all around us in our lives.

If you stand for what is just and right about our fine Postal Service, the name means that.

It's your boat, do as you please. Just don't take your boss out in it.
