I changed the oil on my 95' omc 5.0 (ford) by using the garden hose/transfer pump method. All I could get out of the engine was about 4 quarts of oil. I even raised/lowered the boat to try to get more but to no success. It should hold 6 quarts. I changed the filter and filled it up to the normal level (little over 4 quarts). When I check the oil, it still looks dirty like quite a bit of oil was left in it. Is this normal for this engine? Should I try to drain it again and add more new oil?

If you used the suction hose/fitting (on most OMC's) then it should have gotten all the oil out.It connects to the bottom of the oil pan.
There's about a quart left in the filter and some oil left in the oil galley.
Maybe that's all, there was in there.
Pull the plugs and check for oil fowling.
Run it and see if the level changes. Then drain/fill again.

The only connection I saw with the hose fitting was the oil dipstick. It syphoned out but couldn't get it all. I'll check the parts diagram and double check. Thanks for the info.

It's totally normal, you can never slurp up all the oil, some gets left in the pan, the dip tube, oil galleries, all the internal nooks and crannys, lifters, ect ect. If it's been neglected then you'll have to change it a few times to get it cleaned up.

a70: Thanks for the info. You were right. I changed it again and it is almost "new oil" looking. The previous owner let it get pretty dark so the little left effected all the new I put in. It looks good now though. I'll change it again soon to help it out also.
