so i drained all the gear oil that was in the out drive and put in fresh new gear oil. this is my first time doing this and i saw something i dont think is normal. when the drive is down the blue gear oil leaks through the hole in the lower gearcase and also from the water intake vents. Now when i have water hooked up and running no oil leaks. And when the drive is in the upright position it does not leak either. is this normal? did i put too much oil? 83' omc 4cyl. i/o stringer

If its leaking that bad, time for new gaskets. What did the old oil look like?

Did you spill any oil on the upper part of the motor, it could be just be leaking down. I hope someone with more expierence with this kind of motor chimes in.

I think you'll have to drop the lower unit and replace the o-rings/seals on the shafts.
