I'm tired of standing on my head to change my 1998 5.7L Mercruiser oil filter. I found this remote oil filter kit on the internet, is anyone here familiar with this kit, is it a good alternative to the Mercruiser kit: http://cbrfan.com/parts/?view=item&...OIL+FILTER+KIT+MerCruiser+5+0L+5+7L+MP+380004

I realize the engine has to come out of the boat to install this kit, I'm having to take it out for other reasons anyway.

Thank you.

Ayuh,... It appears to be an Ok system,...

So long as the brackets fit, 'n the hoses reach,...
It ain't exactly rocket science....

Must really suck to have to pull the motor to put it in,...
If ya can change the filter, ya oughta be able to install the kit....

200 bucks for an oil filter remote kit, that seems like a lot of money to spend. I bet you can get the same thing for under 100 from jw whitney or someone like that.
like bond-o said, it aint rocket science.
good luck

Sure you can, but he was wanting a good one.
I've had to replace several of those cheap housing after they cracked, and when they crack, you don't just pull over to the side of the road and wait for a tow truck.

Just make sure you get the hoses correct. Dealer installed mine and got the hoses crossed. The filter had/has an anti drainback valve, also known as a checkvalve, which will prevent oil from flowing thru filter in wrong direction. The engine also has a bypass valve, which in the case of a blocked filter, allows oil, though unfiltered, to get to where it needs to go. At about 100hrs of use the engine sounded like it had mechanical lifters and a bearing knock. Dealer owed up to error and ordered a new long block from Volvo
