I recently bought a 2009 Boulton W/ a 2009 Suzuki DF140.

It has 265 hours on it & runs perfect with zero issues.

I noticed some rust on the starter when I bought the boat but was very excited after everything else about the boat was in perfect condition.

Test drove it 2 times and everything is work perfect.

I have put about 35 hours on in since October.

I plan on replacing all the clamps on the fuel injection system?.pictured below.

But what about the unions?

Should I order all the unions, washers and union bolts.. take it all apart and reassemble it? Or just leave it be? image_238824.jpg

I would replace the clamps, clean everything else up and get some paint or other rust preventative on it.

I would take them apart and determine if they need replaced. Could be all that is needed is clean and maybe some paint. The one spot that I did notice is the ground connections, suggest looking closer at them

Looks like a good winter/off season project to remove/clean/paint/replace everything under the cowling....especially those electrical grounds....and since you can see this rust then it would make every other fastener/connection suspect and subject to your careful inspection. Yamaha makes a spray can of corrosion protectant that should work well for you.

I bought a can of Boeshield T-9.. I think that should help stop the rust and also prevent it from spreading,

Definitely replace the clamps and the union. The union will have to be a Suzuki part, but the clamps can be the stainless screw type that keep a perfect circle as they close. That's the high-pressure side of the fuel system, running an initial 50 pounds when starting, then dropping to 40. You can't afford to leave rusty claps or unions where they are. And the cheap screw-clamps miss tightening about 1/4 of the hose, allowing a nice, explosive spray to come out. Once you get the stuff replaced, the T9 will work well.

Replace all the spring clamps with the OEM clamps - DO NOT USE SCREW TYPE CLAMPS. Replace all other rusted/corroded clamps and the missing low pressure filter rubber retainer.

I take care of about 100 Suzuki's and have never seen a rust situation like that, unless the engine went under water.

That is not a ground connection as the above post indicated - it simply is the fuel cooler mount and holds the wire harness clamp.

Looks Much better!....my guess is the previous owner just ignored the motor, may have operated in salt water....and never even removed the top cowling....there's plenty of folks like that....think the outboard will just continue to run with minimum maintenance...like their cars and trucks...
