Is this safe?

Just bought a 1965 75 hp evinrude v4 <br />on the bottom housing of the lower unit there is a small peice of metal broken off will this affect the performence of the motor?

Is it on the ventilation plate or skeg (fins) or is it out of the bullet?

No real problem if it is out of the skeg and no problem either if it is out of the gear housing unless it is leaking gear oil or real deep. If it is on the gear housing I would fill with Marine Tex for protection.

the peice missing is on the fin its on the corner/tip of the fin

Mercrude, <br />I have a 1962 75HP v4 Evinrude (starflite, right?) I have the same issue. I have removed the lower unit and have removed the housing...the one with the cav plate. I am having the hole in mine welded. Mostly for piece of mind as the gearcase had NO water in it.<br /><br />Anyway...If you need ANY part numbers for your motor...I have a parts manual that covers both your and my motors.
