is this serial #?

I just bought a 40HP 4 cylinder oil injected Mercury. I can not find any number plate on the transom bracket but I found this # on a frost type plug it is D004473 is this the serial #? I know the motor is a '89 or 90.

Yes thats the serial number, your engine is a 1991 starting number was D000750 and starting for 1992 was D082000
