i took my boat out today and had problems with it accelerating. previous owner let the 2003 mercury set up since june last year. its a 75 merc. anyway as suggested by local marine dealership i drained old gas and put new gas in with staybil. keep in mind this is my first outboard. took it back to lake and its done real well. but when i got home i was curious to see what it would do on hose pipe. sorry for my explanation but its the only way i know how. instead of is sounding like you have a chain saw wide open it sounds like you are pulling the trigger on the chain saw in for like 2 seconds and releasing it.over and over till u put it back in nuetral. if your wondering why i put it back on hose pipe its because i noticed it before gas swap. but on the lake i didnt notice this. so maybe thats just the way it sounds out of water. oh and this is when i rev it up to like 4000rpm. not at an idle.

You should NEVER rev a 2 stroke without load beyond about 2000rpm. And NEVER run an engine on flushers/muffs/ear/hose pipe above idle. The hose can't supply enough water and you risk destroying the water pump.

For it to hunt at high revs on the flushers it not a diagnosis, it's just a characteristic. If it ran ok on the lake, then it's ok.
