first off why twin 115 four strokes

wouldnt a sinlge 225 make the same hp but weigh less and have less drag in the water since youll only have 1 lower unit dragging behind you?

how bout a single 250. how much does the etec weigh? i dunno either.

besides, i serisouly doubt youll be able to plane the boat with a single 115 if one of them goes down.

Hello bos, and welcome. First a couple of questions. What year is the boat?

The boat probably came with twin 120 forces, so rather than switch to a single, the previous owner kept twins. Those engines will be more than enough for that boat. lightly loaded you should see around 35-40 mph. with 5 on board and a skier, it should be able to get up. I haven't tried pulling a skier to know.

About planning if one goes down, with the proper props on both engine, it will not plane with one engine off. with a prop change on the running engine it will, it should have 19 or 21 pitch for both, just swap to a 15, maybe even a 13 for one motor operation.

a 1000 rpm troll should give about 2 or 3 knots.

I couldn't tell you about fuel consumption on that combo or compared to suzuki's.

Good luck with the boat.

A friend replaced his single 200 Johnson on an 252 WA with twin 115 hp 4 stroke Yamaha's and he's been very pleased. Boat fully loaded runs in the low 40's and half load in the mid 40's at WOT. Fuel economy at half load cruise (3500 rpm and upper 20's mph) he's getting about 3 mpg. No you can't plane with one engine (at 9 knots he cavilates the prop) so carry a 4 blade composite for any bad engine days when one is down and out.

KnotAddicted...why do you say that it "probably came with twin 120 forces"? The boat can be ordered currently with twin Mercury 115 four strokes. So, unless you know whether he's buying used or new you can't make that call. I'm going to assume (there's that word) he's talking new.

As for the twins. If he plans on offshore fishing (more than 2 to 5 miles) then I'd go with the twins over one motor. Yes they are more expensive to keep due to maintenance on two motors. But the security of two motors 20 to 40 miles offshore is worth the extra money.

In my opinion (which ain't worth cr*p) the twins should be enough to pull a skier out of the water with 5 people aboard. But who would want to do that with a fishing boat setup with twins? Personally I'd opt for the twin Opti 135hp setup. If not going offshore (more than 5 miles) then the single 250hp Verado (same price as the twin 115hp four strokes) would be my choice.

Options on this boat is here:

Trophy 2302 Build and MSRP

As far as running it on one motor it will probably not plane off on one motor. At 4000+ lbs it's a heavy boat and one offset motor will not be enough. The advantage of the weight plus the 20 degree deadrise, sharp entry and decent flare should make it a stable platform in rougher water (2 - 4) with a dry ride. I have not been on the new 2302 with the euro transom so I am not speaking from experience (take that for what it's worth).

As far as Suzuki, Trophy factory rigs with Mercury. The dealer would have to remove the motor and install the Suzuki which would require all the controls, etc. You would have to check with your dealer. Same applies to used. You would have to do the work and/or pay someone to rerig.

If buying used get a good surveyor and a good marine mechanic to go over the boat. It will be money well spent.

Good luck in whatever you choose.

I run a 1988 23' CC Wellcraft with twin 110s and am satisfied with the performance. It will not get up on plane with one engine.

Mole2, I was "assuming" it was used. I didn't know that you could still order the 2302 with twins because I don't see them anymore. Most are ordered with a single.
