Hi Droll<br />I am a lucky guy - my new stepfather works as a toolmaker, and he did the job for me without charging me for it.. The result was perfect He sure knows what he is doing.<br />The silicone is a Norwegian quick fix for the lazy ones. Not a good one, if you are asking me...<br /><br />I found some tiny traces of water, no damage, but clearly water in the top area in the exhaust chamber, so I had to remove the innermost cover plate. It looks like I don't get any more surprises now, as there is no more covers to remove.<br /><br />Morten

Hello all<br /><br />I have now received all the necessary parts to start rebuilding my engine. One new piston, all bearings new, and of course all gaskets. I will just have to drop by the custom office to pick up the parcel. My fingers are itching... <br /><br />All parts including a used crankshaft cost me about $600,- I would have to pay about $850 just for the crank here in Norway. <br />A working condition 115 i6, mid 80 have a market price of about $4000,-...... <br /><br /><br />-M-

Hi Norway!<br />It is very nice to follow your rebuilding. The reason is that Im starting to rebuilt my 88 mod 115 IL6. The motor had rust in to cylinders, rods and crank. Ive got a new crank, and will soon order rest of needed parts. Since Im living in the same country as you it would be nice to know where you bought your parts from.(..yes prices for parts from Norwegian merc dealers are totaly insane). Hello again<br /><br />I have a quick question. When I have finished assembling my powerhead, is it a good idea to try fire her up before I get started on the carbs? I am a bit concerned about messing with to much parts in the same operation. I have some degree of suspicion that it was the carbs which started this mess <br /><br />-M-

I am about to hone all cylinders, and all I have access to is a flex hone. I have read several discussions about honing, and I will not try to start another, but for a non professional, is it safe to use a flex hone? What is the best procedure? How about a tip on your 2 step procedure?<br /><br />-M-

All you have is a flex hone - so I'll take it from there.<br /><br />For a non-professional a flex hone *is* safest. Keep it perpendicular to the cylinder. Use plenty of oil (TCW-3) and reverse the drill direction.<br /><br />With drill at a medium speed, run the hone up and down about 12 seconds in each direction. Then speed it up a little and repeat, but speed up your movement too. The idea is to get a good cross-hatch pattern on the walls.<br /><br />Then CLEAN it all very well - and oil the walls last.<br /><br />-W

Hello again!<br />A quick report: My "Tower of Power" is now completely rebuild - all bearings and piston rings new, rebuil carbs and fuel pump, new gaskets and she is now mounted on my boat, running like a dream, good and strong.! <br /><br />My only concern is that I am not 100% sure if I have found the reason for the breakdown. The last minute before the big bang last year, she was unwilling to run at high RPM's - it felt like she didn't get enough fuel or something. But young and dumb as I was then, I just kept pushing her.<br />When I first tried to run last week, I felt the same - she bogged down and died when I gave more throttle. I then changed the fuel line and the primer bulb, and the problem was gone. <br />Is it possible that this can be the final drop that burned the #2 piston? I could see that she have been badly treated by her last owner - the impeller was really bad and the pump house was a bit melted. This was of course fixed before I had her on the sea last spring.<br />Any opinions about this therory?<br /><br />-M-
