Is this trailer big enough for this boat?

Looking at a boat in the area and wanted to get some other opinions on something. The boat is a 23' sea ray CC with a 5.7 I/O. The boat hangs off the trailer a fair bit and I think it should be on a dual axle vice a single axle. Am I right?

Yes, My dad has a 34 and it is dual. He must not take care of that boat make sure you get the paper work and everything and check the boat for wholes or if the boat runs. Looks like this guy went cheap on the trailer with a nice boat. Someone who doesnt take care of a beautiful boat like this is crazy and shouldn't have a boat in the first plae. Hope i helped.

That trailer doesn't fit that boat AT ALL.

Look at where the winch is located!
The cable is UP.
The V for the winch stand is too low.

Look, the bow looks even with ball coupler!
Now, if you towed with a SUV with a back window...it might hit, or hit the brakes it WILL hit!

Now look at the wheels, looks like the wheel has too much camber...broken wheel bearing, possible bent axle.

With a boat sitting on the wrong trailer, check the bottom VERY CLOSELY!
Any cup in the hull, and that boat won't plane!

Stay away...unless you know what to look for!

+1 on all accounts. I am no expert by any means, but that trailer ain't going anyplace with that boat on it - with the possible exception of going through the back of any tow vehicle.

I'm not boat expert, but that thing looks retarded on that trailer, haha. What the heck are you going to tow it with? An ATV? I think it would hit the tailgate of a pickup truck even!

I'm glad that you guys confirmed my thoughts. Guess I'll look elsewhere since that one's a wash.

You're right, that trailer is for a 16'-19' boat... You'll be lucky if that axle doesn't bend or have a spindle break off.. Most boat trailer axles seem to be rated at around 3,500-lbs from what I found when looking... That boat likely weighs a good 5,000-5,500-lbs by itself..

Good God, was that monster actually being towed around on that trailer? That trailer's about the size of the one under my 15'6" trihull.

It's got to make you wonder when someone has a rig like this. The Sea Ray from outward appearances may look like a good buy, but when someone mouses a trailer setup like that one, you've got to wonder about the whole package. It doesn't speak well of the previous owner's sense of taking care of a vessel. Pass.

As everyone has already said, that boat is too big for that trailer. If the hull is undamaged by the trailer bunks, you may be able to get a really good deal on it. I'd be really careful. Bring an experienced boater/mechanic with you to look at the boat; and absolutely test it on the water.
My boat's only 20'3" and she sits on the original tandem axle trailer. Good luck.

I can IMAGINE (and seen this):
twisted wire with wire nuts
twisted wires with NO nuts NO tape
no fuses or aluminum foil for fuses
duct tape exhaust
a rag for a drain plug
cut up bleach bottle for bailers
house carpet nailed, stapled AND glued
bondo to fix the areas when it missed the trailer
speaker wire for spark plug wires
extension cord for speaker wires
a car stereo sitting on the dash, with a rust stain to prove how long 'for now' is
passenger tires on the trailer
galvanized fence post to repair the axle

Yes, I have seen these and more!

Good eye Angywasp!
Don't settle for junk.

If you had to ask, you likely already suspected. Too short, too light, and too many calls to the tow truck company.

A disaster looking for an accident site.

I imagine there would be just one call to the tow truck company: to haul the wrecked boat, trailer, and tow vehicle to the junkyard.

Wasp, One thought. When the axle breaks or it bounces off the hitch, will there be a SUV with a mom and her kids going to the ball game in the on coming lane? I have learned it is always better to be safe than sorry. You are dealing with a saftey issue here that may involve the lives of others if the worse case scenario happens. We always hope and pray that never happens.... but its best not to stack the odds in favor of it happening.
This is of course is IMHO.

The fact of the matter is you don't tow boats like that. Put the thing back in the water, ditch the trailer and either drive it to your destination or hire a company.

Almost all Single Axel's are rated at 3,000 lbs. That trailer is not for that boat.

My bet is that the seller does not have a clear title in his name for that boat either.
It has been bouncing around Craigslist for the past 4 years being sold and resold because the boat is junk, etc.
The trailer is just one that was laying around at the time someone needed to move it.
