just remove the valve cover to check. a static not running setup is to bring that cylinder to its compression stroke(intake valve is closed) loosen until the push rod is loose, tighten untill you cannot spin the rod with your fingers, + 3/4 more.
A running adjustment is a bit more messy, start the engine , loosen a rocker untill it starts clacking, tighten it till it stops clacking, + 3/4 more

Reread the 2 nd post. If your oil pressure is ok just do what the doctor ordered.

Re: is this valve chatter? video inside.

Take off the valve cover.

Remove your spark plugs.

Put your thumb over the spark plug hole.

Rotate engine until air starts to push your thumb off of the hole.

put a socket on the nut above the rocker arm.

start rotating the push rod between your thumb and your index finger.

Turn the socket clockwise until you can no longer just rotate the push rod with your fingers.

Turn the socket clockwise again 3/4 turn.

Do this procedure to the intake and the exhaust and then move on to the next cylinder...

alpheus thanks for the reply but this seems more complicated than the manual way of doing it. does anyone know what order the valves are in on the 2000 3.0?

Re: is this valve chatter? video inside.

get those little clips things and set the valve lash with the engine running. you put the clips in the oil squirter holes, and then just run down the line, loosen till it clicks, then tighten till it stops, next next etc etc. wipe up your mess and your done.

lonestar i tried adjusting it while running but was never really sure when the ticking started or stopped, so didn't feel comfortable adjusting it based on my hearing

The way I just posted, you don't need to know the order of the valves. If the piston is on the compression stroke (blows your thumb off the spark plug hole) both valves will be closed and ready for adjustment. You are over complicating this procedure. You could have been done by now...

Good luck...
