I dont watch reality TV shows but last night at work a co-worker put on fear factor during our break.

They were putting people into a big clear plastic tub and filling it full of cow or pig intestines.

They had to use their teeth to tear open the intestines , suck out the innards and spit it into a cup. When they had the cup filled they had to drink it.

As I sat there and watched this I wondered what has become of entertainment.

I am not a snob or a prude by any means but how can anyone find this entertaining?

This was on primetime. Plenty of families across america sitting down together and watching this stuff.

I dont know how anyone could sit down with their kids and watch such filth.

It was one of the most disgusting things I have seen on broadcast TV.

And we were worried about 2.5 seconds of flesh exposed at the superbowl but this is acceptable??

I know alot of you will tell me to lighten up.

But I am not offended by it. So dont bother.

I just cant believe this is considered family entertainment.

Re: Is this what we have come to?

we got rid of cable this past year, cause there really wasn't anything worth $30 a month to watch.

Now that all we have is the local network chanels..... WOW, the free stuff is the worst! You can't watch ANYTHING with a 4 yo in the room.

at least I knew with Discovery or TLC, I didn't have to worry about the comercials!

Fear Factor..... I used to watch the first and last stunt, and turn to something else for the middle, as it is always just flat out disgusting!

All the networks have been doing this - it boggles the mind! Major networks!

And I don't get what any of that crap has to do with "reality" anyway! I refuse to watch it.

I'll admit it, I have watched Fear Factor on occasion, a Survivor or too, but I also would not shed even a single tear if the reality stuff went away. I am weary of it all. I can't wait until it warms up so I can be outside and not forced to watch the drivel that is entertainment...

Let me guess, you grew up during the golden age of TV (late 60's, early 70's, Brady Bunch, Gilligan's Island, Partridge Family, Hawaii 5-0, etc). Sometimes I feel compelled to watch whatever's on, too, and I think it comes from being home all afternoon during that era before parents started thinking about limiting kid's TV exposure. Just a theory.

Boatingfool,
I can't agree more. That stuff is pathetic. I hate reality shows with a passion. I made my daughter switch the channel the other day when she was watching Fear Factor. They put a woman laying on her back in a clear glass box, then covered her with pigs ears and then dropped 200-300 rats on top of her. The man had his arms tied behind him and he had to pull the pigs ears out with his teeth. Sticking his head in all those live rats. If my wife had seen it she would have passed out.
I thought it was just me. Since i've gone back to school I haven't had much time for TV. Now I know that's a GOOD thing.

Well, here I agree with you all. These shows are disgusting.
Even "Survivor"
I always figured if I wanted to watch a bunch of whining, backstabbing, conniving, lying weasels I could always go to my next family reunion.

So, your the only lib. in your family? :D Going on 5 years without tv (vcr&tv only). I disabled the reception part of the tv in a fit. I could'nt stand the crap they were feeding my kids, comersials wher'nt even safe. I do miss my sports and outdoor shows but its a good sacrifice.

We stopped our kids from watching the Disney channel.

I always thought it was a safe channel till one day I walked thru the room and they had a TV show on with some preteens talking about having sex. It wasnt about obstaining from it , it was about participating in it.

I asked what channel they were watching and they said Disney.

It Hasnt been on since.

Good show on tonight on History at 8 est. The battle of Antietam. Other than the sports Tylerin mentioned, History is reality TV.

T.V.

What can I say. It provides some of the best programing ever, but primarily it broadcasts the worst. 10% good 90% bad.

I agree, I can't wait for the season to change so I can forget about it for another 6 months.

Has been for a while SoulWinner.
What started out as a behind the scene acceptance of the gay artists, turned into a slow but sure intrusion of sexual content and deviation in the eighties, and has "progressed"? since then.
Sad, cause Disney used to have a reputation beyond reproach, and created some of the best entertainment of any kind.

They used to "hide" their involvement in such activities, by setting up subsidiary film companies, but not anymore.
