I wanted to know if trolling was bad for your engine, you know just enough speed to maybe not create wake. I see some people do it on a lake fishing for stripers, will this cause serious carb build up?
Its good to go full throttle as much as you can on a 2 stroke right?

there is nothing wrong with going any speed you want. wide open throttle is a total waste of fuel. go full throttle and cut back to 7/8 - 3/4 and you save fuel, and only lose 2-3 mph. if your engine is tuned properly you can troll forever. as long as you've got a good water pump to keep it cool, suggest always adding seafoam or the like, to you fuel mix., keeps carbon build up to a minimum. as long as you have water flow you can idle all day with no problems. if you don't have water flow you may have a weak inpeller.

here's a note:

Re: Is trolling bad??

Trolling is not bad, especially with today's motors with electronic ignition and better oils. If it was, I would be in trouble. My 1984 Johnson runs as good as new and hardly ever gets over 2000 RPM except for the occasional joy ride. It is only on the second set of spark plugs and the originals are still good for spares, if I can find them. It doesn't hurt to open 'er up once in awhile to blow the smoke out as they used to say, but even that is not a requirement..
