Is wakeboarding hard?

Re: Is wakeboarding hard?

I just learned to wakeboard last weekend, and it is a blast. Much more fun than skiing to me. A couple of pointers on getting up the first time that I learned the hard way. Some say not to turn the board until you're up. That seems to work for kids, but it didn't work for me at all. As soon as I start moving, I turn the board and get up right away. Otherwise, I'm just being drug in the water trying hard to hold on to the tow rope. To get up, you need to push against the board and stand up. Once you get up the first time, it's like riding a bike. You will get up every time after that.

With regard to kneeboarding, I taught my 10 year old son to kneeboard last weekend, and he got up 1st try (even though he was very nervous about doing it). We got him to lay on the board and just towed him slowly so he could get used to the feel. After about a hundred yards, he pulled himself up and was good to go. The kneeboards that have the hook for the tow rope handle are better for beginners because then you don't have to worry about holding on to the rope at the same time you're trying to get up.

Thanks for the tips.
That is what happened to me. I was just being drug in the water and fighting it the entire time. Next time I get to go out I'll try the knees inside the elbows and turn the board a little sooner.
I can't wait to get out their.

Re: Is wakeboarding hard?

My Son had a disastrous first try at wakeboarding as he had no idea or instruction how to do it.

Yesterday we went out again after listening to one guys simple instructions and advice.
I thoroughly recommend this to any beginner, my boy got up first time after following Lane 'Dawg' Bowers advice...

  • Head Up
  • Shoulder Roll
  • Meat Hook
  • Hips

Have a look at this:

There are 3 short lessons that trust me, will make a difference.:)
You will get up, first time, every time.

I must say, its quite fun watching beginners beef it over their front edge. I've got every girl who wanted to try boarding up behind my boat, my guy friends on the other hand.... seem to not grasp the concept. lol....

If youre riding behind an I/O i'd say the rope is going to be more like 60-65ft, if youre attaching to the rear eye i'd maybe say 55-60. Getting up isn't hard, once you do it once youll be like "oh so thats how you do it". Its a lot easier if you have someone in the boat experienced that can coach you. For a full grown adult i'd found the best way to get people out of the water is a full powered launch. Dont baby it, just go. If you can hang on than youll pop up and be plaining and stable real quick. Girls on the other hand 50% throttle until they pop up then go.

I'm on the side of just imediately turn the board and porpoise out. You'll wear yourself out trying to stop a boat.

My biggest advice is DONT GIVE UP. Wakeboarding has quickly become my favorite activity in the last few years. Its fun to be able to try all kinds of stupid tricks that you would never do if your biggest consequence wasn't just a splash. Have fun!

Agree! I dont know how many times I've said "hey! stay off of that toe edge, I'm not taking you to the hospital" next run instead of "down" i just hear OOOOOOWWWWWWW! from the people in the boat and i know its time to turn around.

I've seen this on here before. It's a hacker and most certain the link has a virus. I'll send a Mod a message.

Re: Is wakeboarding hard?

This is my 9 year old daughter wakeboarding. This is about day three. She was able to get up her very first try. She had been skiing for a couple of season though. So far she has only had two faceplants that ended her fun for a while both times.

Re: Is wakeboarding hard?

Last week I finally had a chance to go out on wakeboarding? I have a boat with a tower but no one wants to drive and pull me so I never had a chance to go out while I pulled many friends and kids for last few years?. I could not make my wife to drive my boat but she was willing to pull me with our 3 people Jet Ski? My wife had no clue to drive right for a wakeboarding but I managed to get up on 2nd try?. Once got up? I had no ideas what to do? no grip?. Nothing like skis?. Once I figure it out to where to put pressure and edge if was very fun??. I am a 48 years old man?. Still having Fun?
I can not wait for next time?.. Watching Video helps a lot? I must find someone to drive my boat and pull me....

Not yet...but researching and looking at options right now. We have a Tahoe Q5i and would prefer to keep our factory Bimini.

Allzway, I have the same boat with the same problem. Have you decided on a tower yet?
I saw on the Monster Tower site that their is a Q5 that has the factory bimini with an MT1 attached to it.

Cheers.

Allzway-
Thats impressive that your daughter can switch so easily, that is my biggest problem. She makes it look easy. I'm not sure if she was trying to do that or not but she will have it made when she can control the board a little better.

You got it bud.

I'm still attempting most all boards and punishing my knees at 46 ... there are literally days the vicadin barely helps! I'm going for the knee replacements in a few years, although by then, I may be in a waterchair!

For those of you maybe like me, still playing around, looking for the right boards -- don't forget to check out any local second hand sports stores, like "Play it Again." I took a look yesterday and my local store had two knee boards very cheap ... just another option before shelling out the $$$.
