Re: Islander 19' vs 22'

I have a 87' V221 and it is my first boat. With a brand new 3.0L 130 Merc..1 tank can last for a 4 day weekend. From WOT to Cruising. Approx 10 Hrs.
Tows great with a 2007 F150. Good on gas. Runs at 36 MPH. verified by GPS. at 4200 RPMs.
Some family members have open bow riders and I have to saw I really enjoy the cuddy and slightly bigger boat. A place to sleep if needed and gets the job done.:D

Re: Islander 19' vs 22'

kyless,

What pitch and size prop are you running?
Is 4200 rpms wot?

I am running 4600 rpms @ 28mph (gps @ sea level) wot and would like to get some more top end speed. My engine says 4300-4600 rpm wot in the manual.
I have a 21' Cheiftain with a new 3.0l which should be comprable to the 22 islander for size and weight.

I believe it's a 19 Pitch
14 in. ? Stainless steel
It came with the boat.
It does hit 4800 Rpm's but hat is why it has a new engine now. So I don't pu**** much anymore.
Btw where did you get your engine. Mine is from Michigan motorz Troy Michigan. Great guys.

Re: Islander 19' vs 22'

Bought my engine from the same guys in 2007, no problems so far.
I wonder if the islander hull is just a better hull for speed. My engine seems to run great will power from idle to wot, I have check that I am getting wot on the carb and I am, the carb is jetted good so the plugs look good.
My boat weight is 4,000lbs on the trailer axles. Maybe I have just too much weight in the boat. 3/4 floor, 1/2 seat pedastals, 2 batteries, 15hp kick and fuel, spare parts, down rigger weights and other stuff.
I plan to install a new engine tach and I will play around with props to see try and get my wot @ 4300, this should give me max speed. Thanks for the reply

I thought the hulls were the same, but I could be wrong.
As for weight I know the trailer is 600 lbs (registration)
Boat itself was said to be approx 3ooo lbs.
A for weight Floor is original, Back to back seats fron x 2.and 2 jumpers in back. 2 batteries, fuel ( of course)... no kicker (wanting one)
small Tool box..no down rigger ( has setup for) and overnight stuff. Grill, sleeping bags, loaded coolers.

This past weekend I ran 35 MPH at 4300 RPM's with 4 Adults, 2 kids (1 yrs old) 2.5 coolers and food bags. It was on Cumberland lake, so no current and no waves..Hardly any boaters..But the boat was able to run and maintain that speed. Then tried some skiing with the nephews ,able to get up and run for awhile. They were still learning. Still with the same weight in boat. But tried 2 of the adults but the skies were to small for us bigger guys..LOL
The boat did pull but us bigger guys could not just get up on the smaller skies.
As for my tach... When tested with timing gun..the tach ran about 100 RPMS higher...so not bad.
Keep me informed on your progress..alwasys looking for more power...haha
