it starts and quits

Hi I was wondering if anyone could maybe know what is wrong with my motor. The motor is a 9.9 evendrude year 92. The problem is it starts then it kill right away. In order to keep it running I have to push and pull the choke. During the whole time the gas bulb is still hard. The kill switch is bad too but I unhooked that to run it because, with it hooked up it won't start.<br />Thank you for taking the time to read this<br />hope to hear from you soon<br />Boater18

Check the carb - it might be gummed up.<br /><br />Probaly need a carb clean/rebuild

thanks for the suggestion. I was going to clean it first and see if it worked then if it didn't just rebuild it. I just wanted to see what people would think it would be

agree -- sounds like carb (clogged jet). I have a '90 9.9, and it runs smoothly -- seems like a nice engine. Mine had a carb rebuild before I bought it, so maybe yours is due.

take the carb apart spray OMC Engine Tuner into every jet and make shure everything is perfectly clean - reasemble with a new carb kit adjust float hight and the carb should be ok.<br /><br />If your water pump has some years on it - give it a new impeller.<br /><br />Check spark plugs - or put new in.<br /><br />Start the engine up and check cooling and adjust carb (slow speed needle) now you will have a good engine for years.<br /><br />The 9,9/15 hp engines are some of the best OMC engines build IMHO.
