It took 5 pages of search results from Bing to find an outboard parts dealer / marina who actually has information about the 1987 Force 50 motor... impeller, water pump kit, thermostat, and a starter for less than $190. For awhile there I was beginning to think my motor didn't really exist (even tho it has a model number and serial number).

THANKS for all the help. Anyone need a GOOD source for parts that provides free shipping for orders over $100, message me.

Still carries or can get many older force motor parts. You'll have to call for price and shipping info.

BTW- The going price for that starter alone is about $160. Good luck finding all those parts for the price you want.

I found the parts I need. Managed to fix the starter myself, ordered the water pump (impeller) kit which includes the key pin that was missing, the thermostat that was trash, and the head gasket for $180 total.

I have verified that the starter works. Need to verify spark and fuel while waiting for the parts, and I think I will add a telltale.

I bought the boat (87 Capri 16), motor, and trailer for $500... the boat needs work on the flooring and new upholstery but that will be my winter project.

It would be nice if I could find replacement windshields, but not likely.

The second I found this afternoon http://www.boats.net from which I just ordered the rectifier that we broke this afternoon trying to track down a no-spark problem on the upper cylinder... turned out the points were shorted for that particular cylinder. Fixed that and voila, spark to both cylinders now, and no new coil (those are SPENDY) necessary.

Now, on to the fuel system.
