My latest acquisition is a sixteen foot Mod V Polarkraft with 25 horse Merc. The poor girl languished in my uncle's back yard for years until he finally consented to let me come rescue her ('cause that's the kind of hero I am;)). I'm proud to say that she now has: driver side hub, curb side wheel and tire, new bearings, and winch handle on the trailer, new impeller, carb kit and prop on the motor, new drain tube and piece of aluminum in the boat to keep the battery from bouncing up and down on it again. I got a new fuel line last night but it didn't fit, so I guess I'll have to go to the local Merc dealer for that, then she'll be ready to splash. I'm 'cited!:D

Re: It's Alive

Thanks fellas. Transom is solid. It's a typical big Mod V john boat (which is my favoritest kind of boat in the world) and has blocks of foam in the benches. No decking of any kind. Unc had put a carpeted wood "floor" in it, the kind you can take out if you need to, but it was rotten so I chunked it. I'll probably stick something back in there eventually to deaden sound, etc., but it's not a priority. Right now it's just a big, wide open jon. That's the way I like em. The next thing I want to do is have a block welded up front for a trolling motor, and I'll probably camo the boat. I know camo is really for the hunter, but it needs to be painted any way, so might as well make it look cool. Probably put the vice admiral in charge of that project. She decorates all my outdoor toys and does a masterful job. Couldn't have come at a better time as we have a big family camping and fishing trip in November on the White river. Not to worry though. I'll splash her long before then and I promise to stage some good boat porn.

Re: It's Alive; Now With Pics

Saturday's weather was spectacular so I dragged Pop out to a local lake to splash the new member of the fleet and wet a hook. I found the boat to be big, wide, stable, dry and fast. Didn't have a GPS but at WOT we were doing at least thirty and probably a little better. I need to move the good tire to the good wheel in order to have a spare, and I'm going to replace the bow stop with a roller and replace the curb side trailer light. There was a little rain water in the boat when we launched so I couldn't confirm with 100 percent certainty there were no leaks, but the cup or so that was already in there didn't increase after four and a half hours in the water, so that's good enough for me. I'll add the TM mount in the next week or so as I found the TM doesn't work too well without one. The pics aren't great, but as promised here they be. Few material things make me happier than a big john boat, so I'm a happy boy.:Dm6.JPGm5.JPGm4.JPGm3.JPGm2.JPG

LOL! That's my old man holding a bream. It was actually a really big bream (I know that sounds kind of like jumbo shrimp:p, but it's all relative). He needs to work on his grip 'n grin technique for sure, but he doesn't get out much. I was glad to be able to get him out there Saturday. He had a large time.

Nice boat!...you mentioned, "bouncing battery"....you do have a plastic battery box don't you?...I run a big jon, and cringe to think how long a cracked/leaking battery would take to eat a hole right through that aluminum hull!....How many boats you got now?...

Yes sir, but while the welder had it for the drain tube replacement I told him to weld in a piece between the transom and the back-most (not sure that's a word:confused:) rib to make a little nest for it. Fits perfectly and no mas bounce. Roberto, you might be interested to know I decided to use a motor deflopperizer on this rig. I swiped the one off the party barge and it's a good match. I secured the LU to the cradle with a cam strap then ran another cam strap around the trailer's back crossmember and the LU. Less than a minute for the whole process and it is rock solid. As for the size of the fleet; let's see; two canoes, one john boat, two inflatables and a party barge, so six. In the interest of fairness I must mention that one of the canoes and one of the inflatables actually belong to other parties who are too frightened to keep them at their houses, though the admiral doesn't seem to acknowledge these distinctions as having any particular bearing on the number of watercraft housed at the Coop compound. Women can be so unreasonable.:p
