It seems that when you get this many people together that spend thier time in the outdoors you start to find that you all have simmilar stories. Like the recent attack of the tree rats and I have to admit the fishing hotspot. I to have set folks up by fishing in a flooded street. As well there are a lot of falling off the boat and other not so common occurences that we all can say has happened to us.

Peterfisherbuster,

It is strange how people all over the world can relate to outdoor experiences. I love the outdoors, I lived in the country so I grew up spending a lot of time outdoors. Moved to the city while in college, AND MOVED BACK to the country. Ahhhhhhh Home Sweet Home. White River National Reserve with in walking distance of my house and a 3 great fishing lakes within a 1/4 mile of me.

Hunting and Fishing Heaven

It's a small world....And we are all in it.

I live in the woods, Work in the woods and play in the woods.....and I like pepole that do the same.

Its funny when you get someone who thinks you are a dumb hick because they have not had the exsperinces that you have had in the woods.

They still think they are better than you even when they are in the woods with you....thats when the fun begins.

We had a guy come out to meet us at his property that we had surveyed so we could stake out his future home.

The guy was a Jerk from the getgo.....Mistake #1: Never tell a surveyor how he should survey a lot because you have owned property before. That will make us mad and make you sound stupid.

Mistake #2: Never tell a surveyor where to dig for a corner because you have paced it off and thats much more acurate than our 12,000 transit and 4 hours worth of blood, sweat and tears to calculate out the boundry to the hundreth.

Mistake #3: And never ever ever get mad and snatch a surveyor's machette out of his hand and go cutting down the property line because we left a bush on line....We just might let you!

The jerk was so mad about that bush....he wanted to see from corner to corner and called me everything includeing late for dinner....not good.

When he took my blade and headed for that bush, spitting out curse word after curse word i just told my eyeman to stand to the side of the property line and don't move because that dude was going to be comming back REAL fast.

He walked up to that bush and gave it a good wack and all the sudden....BINK, BINK, BINK BINK BINK....YYYYAAAAAAAAA.

ZZOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMM!

"Find that yellow jackets nest did ya sport" I said. "Maby next time you wont be so egar to curse at us and let us do our job".

He was not happy but he did not say another word to us and let us finish doing our job.

In the end he thanked us and said he was sorry.

Just because we like the woods does not make us ignorant or uneducated. We have class and deserve no less respect than a banker that drives a B.M.W.

I am glad to be a part of this fourm and have great respect and apriceation for all of my freinds here.

Thanks guys!

Luckywood.

Re: It's amazing.

Derwood,
Friends I find in the country generally have different attitudes to life than the rest of us city dwellers.
It doesn't matter that I'd much rather live down the Motu way, I have my past experience and sometimes that is my biggest resorse in work, love and play.
Workmates in psychiatry sometimes comment how I get things done or how I problem solve, but they pay the greatest respect when they do likewise. Thus without knowing there are times when these city folk give great non-spoken feedback without even being aware of it!
Being able to see through a lot of political hogwash and being focussed on my job is the skill I use. I find that most abundant outside the concrete jungle, two folk I hold dear live in the country. We communicate sometimes only once each 6 months but they'd both drop everything and be here if I just called. Likewise back to them.
I'm not a religous man, but bless them.
Ross

Hey derwood - I'm a banker and I drive a BMW - what makes you think I get any respect ;) Definitely one thing I've learned here doing what I do (and driving what I drive, I guess) - its an inside job - it's the man and his principle, nothing else.

Derwood, yer gettin' real good at that paragraph thing. Love yer stories. Biggest problem I see around here is northern city folks mistakin' slow talkin' for slow thinkin'. Guess things move a little faster in their world. I like this speed better.

No kiddin'....a yellow jacket nest?!?!

It still amazes me, though. I can sit here at this keyboard, and communicate with some bloke on the other side of the world who has similar interests. Wow, and not one international incident yet! Does that make us diplomats?

It is certainly an odd occurence.

I would have to guess that with this site being what it is, most of us have similiar mind sets. Seeing that we all have come here at somepoint to either help or be helped with our respective boating needs. Which has probably led us to similiar expieriences and blunders.

Hi Folks,

I live in the WOODS too. I like it there. As far as what I drive, hmmmmmmmm. My wife drives a Jag. New one too. I drive a deisel myself, Ford Power Stroke, It's getting old now and I'll replace it with another one just like it soon. But I'm contry as it comes. I never could stand living on concrete.

I can kill deer in my back yard and squirrels in my front yard.

I run into the dumb hick stuff all the time or redneck stuff.

I sorta laugh when I hear this this. Most city folks don't know what real living really is and I'm glad. If they did then I'd probably have neighbors.

There are plenty of nice city folks and lots of ignorent contry pepole.

I did'nt mean to say i don't like pepole from the city just the ones that think because they are above getting their hands dirty that it makes them better that me or classer than I am because of it.

Its not the pants on the man, Its the man that wears the pants....Nobody is stupid untill they prove they are.

Yes...A yellow jackets nest.

It was in the ground right next to the base of the bush....hence the reason I did not cut it down.

If he had told me that he wanted it cut down in a nice way I would have told him why I left it....but he just had to curse me.

What goes around comes around....sometimes quicker than we like.

Derwood.
