That`s interesting to me because my 97 S 10 recently had exactly the same thing happen and I haven't gotten around to looking at it. But I did go out to the boat and look into my controller and found a broken part and I wasn't able to open it up to grease I will need a impact driver to get the case screws out. So I do have to hunt down a part for a merc commander 2000. MY neutral lock holder is broken
the tittle say it all, I know its late in the season but. I guess I will go out the slip and tear apart my controller and geese it to have some thing to do.![]()

Sorry about ya'll needing something to get into to pass the time. In Central Fla. boating has just begun. 80 degress , slight wind , low humidity. We hate the summer but sure enjoy your winter. Burrrrrrrrrrrr
I tell you all what the screws in my controller are sure being a real PIA, the second trip out was with a impact driver and I got 2 out of 3 out and the last one the driver bit broke and buggered up the screw head, so now its drill out time. Merc must of use lock tight on them. I have a new shift lock piece on order and new screws along with a carb kit and float and a full water pump kit. The controller is a 1994 or so and has never been greased so it should help it a good bit but I think the broken shift lock thing was the problem why it was being tight sometimes.
