Soo the wifes POS 96' Exploder has the wonderful plastic headlights that oxydize and turn yellow. After seeing ads for headlight restoration kits on TV, I bought a Mother's 4Lites polishing kit for $25 to give it a try. Wow! I have now gone ape polishing every plastic/plexi thing I own. I did the headlights, bug deflector, the windshield on my BMW bike, my cabin hatch lid, the doggie door and my helmet visor. I've still got 3/4ths of the polish left. Takes a little patience but great results. There was a thread elsewhere about plastic polishing a boat windshield, I'd bet this stuff is the trick! Sorry no photos,in my zeal I forgot to do before and afters. I've always been more than skeptical about miricles in a bottle, nice to find someting good.

I use tooth paste to polish mine out, with a firm buffing pad..works great. and is cheaper than the Mother's Kit.

Glad you are so thrilled with the (immediate) result! Not to burst your bubble, but give it a month. Unfortunately, once that layer of UV protectant film is yellow and crusty, it is time to replace the lights. You can buy time by doing this polishing, but it will come back. Also, it gets less and less effective the more you do it. I nursed my wife's '01 Chrysler minivan lights along for a year before I finally bought a brand new set off ebay for a whopping $60/pr shipped...with bulbs. Then traded the thing. I can't tell you how many '87-93 Fox Mustang headlights I have polished and repolished with everything under the sun...only to have them re-yellow in a month.

Well the scratches are gone and also the oxydation which is half the battle. I used it on both clear and smoke color surfaces. I was very nervous about using it on the windscreen of my bike, (that would have been a $500 mistake) but it worked great and optically looks really good. Toothpaste would have never been an option in my eyes for the windscreen or my helmet visor, neither of which was yellowed, just topical scratches. They're gone now, I'm happy!

dockwrecker,

I have used it on the windscreen on my ATV and use it on my visor with no problems at all, a dab of toothpaste, a little water and a good quality buffing wheel on my variable speed 4 in grinder and I am good to go..

But I am glad you happy with your solution, that is what it is all about, being happy.

You can clear coat once you are done polishing and it will stay clear for quite awhile.
