1997 Mercury 60hp was changing the lower unit oil, noticed a separate white stream in the oil which wasn't mixed with the green Mercury l.u. oil. Would this be water or something else? please see photo, and thank you for your time.

Depends on how long it was after it was ran, may be a bit of foam. If you dropped the oil with in a few days.

Hi, the boat hasn't been run since mid Sept.,, but I did drive some before changing the L.U. oil. I've seen milk shake looking oil, this just doesn't look like that. Think I need to worry about replacing the seals in the lower unit?

This just looks like agitation bubbles. Color is great. If in doubt, take some of the oil containing the bubbles and put in a small clear container....conical in shape would be best. Let it sit for a few days. If water it will collect on the bottom of the container. But again the color doesn't suggest contamination.

I have an old motor that has a water issue in the lower unit. I change the oil twice a year to keep it going. The oil looks like very light chocolate milk when I take it out. I't completely obvious when there is water in there. Yours does not look like that.

Looks ok to me. Oil and water mix would look a lot more like a chocolate milk shake.

you have to make a pressure test for your lower unit to find the bad seal on it,
somebody can tell us if we need special tools to do it? or the steps to do it?
