The owners manual with my 69 33HP Electric S.S. doesn't specify what solenoid is correct. It has 4 posts, (from back to front) main in on the right, starter on the left, and the two center posts appear to be the 'switch.'

The main post is stripped (built up with washers) but the kicker was that one of the switch posts broke off. Now I need a new 'noid!

So, before I go to NAPA and make a fool of myself, is there anything specifically I need to ask to make sure I'm getting the right part? (Is a solenoid, a solenoid? Or are they vehicle/engine specific?)

[Want to get my 'toon back in the water so we can go see the fireworks next weekend!]

Thanks!
Dan

No, a solenoid is not just a solenoid. You don't want to be installing a solenoid from a 1982 Ford on that engine.

Just tell the personel at NAPA that you need a solenoid for the specific engine you have. He should hand you one that's identical to what you had (but in better condition. grin)

One of the automotive will work but you need to get one for a marine application because of the grounding in it. It will make without creating a spark.

Hi vdub
Ask for Napa part #18-5808. Call them up right now. This part# is from their marine parts catolog. You should be able to be on the water this afternoon.

Thanks Joe and Bubb, perhaps a foolish question, but anyone know what part # I should ask for? (Since NAPA is already closed here for the day.) I don't want to remove the old one until the new one is in hand so I can transfer the wires over...

Not bad! Two responses in 6 minutes! :)

Dan
