J150GLEIS Flywheel cover

Can the area that covers the starter on the flywheel cover be cut off without causing any problems. Most motors I've looke at you can actually see the armature engage. It bugs me that it is encased by the flywheel cover in case I ever need to rewind or mess with it.

Rule #1 If it ain't broke don't mess with it.
No you cannot cut away the flywheel cover due to the fact that the upper starter bushing is part of it. Also you would expose the starter gears to the elements. This is a gear reduction drive.
