Re: j225txcub cooling question

thanks guys, just ordered the parts. will be replacing all parts in water pump and also T-stats.

Just letting you guys know I just purchased this boat, and look likes it has not had any work done to it for many years.

Compression is 100 + in all 6. I started it up yesterday and started right up.

There was no alarms are anything, but started to see really hot water pouring out of the 2 holes under the power head.

The water was steaming. I checked the stats and pulled them out. There was no flow coming from the open stat port.

Do you know if you don't have pressure that the water will pour out of the 2 holes???

Re: j225txcub cooling question

Thanks to all in advance,

I took off the lower unit to replace the water pump and found that the end of the water tube was frayed and bent closed. Looks like the last person that worked on this motor just shoved the lower unit on and didn't care about bending the hell out of the water tube.

My question is can I just solder a piece of copper tubing on the end? Or is it brass tubing?

Re: j225txcub cooling question

The end of the tubing is a defined size so that it makes a fairly good seal with the rubber grommet in the water pump housing. So if you want to go the solder route you need to cut enough off the old tube to sweat on a straight coupling and a tail piece the exact same size to fit into the housing. I'd say it can be done.
