A length of weed-whacker line makes a useful too to clear the tell-tale passage. If the trash you mentioned looks like very fine sand, it is probably part of a mud dauber nest. (In any case, you might pull off the lower unit and pump some water up the tube -- see if that helps. Check the lower unit water intake as well.)

I am surprised nobody has suggested a flush....oh, wait....they have. :)
That is what I would suggest also.

D03C95BE-574F-457E-A300-9B729F275D32.jpeg After my local dealer told me there was no garden hose adaptor for a j6r4scr, i got a brass bolt, a screw on hose cap, and an o-ring, screwed it into the flush port and flushed away. Then i ran it while flushing, no joy. My results are inconclusive cause all i got is that too short white can, but my optimism has faded a bit.

Back at it today. I backtracked the peehole hose to the accelerator pump. It has two water hose nipples, one for incoming water, one for th pee hose. I tok both off and ran it. Water shot out of the incoming hose immediately. I hooked the hose back to the accelerator pump and got nothin. Ran it at idle for 10 min so the t-stat could open just in case, still nothin. Why in the world is water runnin thru the accelerator pump?
