You can still use a 9/16"NF bolt, you just have to make sure it doesn't go in so far as to screw up the internals, buy a bolt slightly longer than you need and use washers to space it out to the correct transom depth. You can easily drill out the motor and transom holes to take the larger bolt, I'm willing to bet they may even go through without modification.
You don't need a stud.
