I have a 24 foot pontoon with a 85 hp Johnson on it. I want to put tilt and trim on it but the motor sits too low in the water and the tilt and trim will hit the sides of the mount of the pontoon. I have a jack plate I took off my bass boat and want to put it on the pontoon but I am a little afraid that will put too much pressure on the transom. Do other pontoons have jack plates on them and have no issues with them?

Yes there is pontoons out there with jack plates. We can better help you if we had pictures of your transom and knew more about your toon and motor like what year are they?

Thanks 1983, I will try to get some pictures up today. I am afraid without the tilt and trim I can't raise the motor if it gets hung while out on the water. Speed is not even considered, as a reason for the tilt and trim. The motor I have on the pontoon now is bolted down so it won't swing up in reverse, if I could get it to run right.

The motor is a 1976 85 hp Johnson, the pontoon is a 24 foot 1985.

Another reason for the jack plate is to get the motor up higher, it is too deep in the water, IMHO.

I kinda had same issue with mu old transom it was too narrow at the bottom for the old style TNT with the side cylinders. I had about 4 inch angle that caught water but I simply used aluminum skinning and made it where the water flowed rather than catching on it. The best thing to do is find the newer TNT that's all in the center and use it.

There should be a mechanism that locks it down in reverse. Go to brp web site enter your model number look at the parts lay out to see what your missing.

1983, I checked the white motor and the mechanism that locks it down isn't there, someone, for some reason, took it off. I have since changed engines and I did install the jack plate and TNT, I am a happy camper now. Thanks for all the help.
