Re: jack

Make a fist, and pound it on the side of your hull, and watch it boe in, then pound on a side of a parker, Grady or whaler and feel a solid thump with no movment
Whatever "boe" means, my boat doesn't do it. The hull is solid. Besides, why would I compare a cruising boat to one designed to fish offshore in evil conditions? That's a ridiculous challenge Ryan.

You're the guy who made the mean-spirited comment about Special Olympic participants, aren't you? Nice.

I'm glad my friend Kevin Sanders never saw your post with the airborne Whaler and your comment about 'not trying this in a bilgeliner'...because then he wouldn't have taken his Bayliner from Seattle to Whittier, Alaska in 9 days. The 20 foot seas that ripped his tender right off the swimstep would have scared him a lot more if he'd seen that post of yours.

Or my friend Gene Hoffmann who took his Bayliner from Seattle to San Francisco last year. Guess both those guys were pretty stupid to try that in such low quality boats huh?

Come on Ryan, give me something so I can show everyone you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Cleats maybe? Quality of fabrics? Fit and finish of doors, etc? Stringer encapsulation? Wiring? Where is the low quality in my boat?

IMHO, Bayliners do not belong in ocean or large open waters... You don't play around out there...

Ever seen a Bayliner break in half?.. I have.. For all intents and purposes, the boat was two pieces... Totalled, in a monsterous 2-3 foot sea.. USCG rescued my buddys from their sinking "Trophy".. (and a real prize it was)

On protected waters like small lakes and rivers, bayliners might be fine, but the Ocean plays for keeps...

Where is the low quality in my boat?
Just for Sts & Giggles I've done a search,.......
Here's a couple of Facts,.... Just for You Mike....
Here's a few Hull Weights... As Close a match of hulls as I could find........

305 Bilgeliner; 10,850 lbs.....
Formula 31; 14,100 lbs.....
300 SunDancer; 12,500lbs....
290 AmberJack; 11,300lbs....

Maybe,... Just Maybe,.... Your Bilgeliner is Short a Few Gallons of Resin,+ a Bundle of Cloth..??......
Oh......Oh Ya,...... I Forgot,............
The Layup Schedule Doesn't have Anything to do with Entry Level boat building......

It's an Entry Level boat for a Reason..... Bilgeliner Isn't Giving Anything Away.........
Corners Are Cut,... Somewhere........

Totally Aside from the Bilgeliner Vs. Bayliner thing,..........
Historically Speaking,............

(EDIT)

Yeah, snapperbait...let's get the details on this one. I find it intriguing that a Trophy broke in half in "monsterous" 2 - 3 foot seas. I've had my Trophy 1802 in those monsterous conditions quite a few times so I'd really like to hear the details and verify them. The ball is in your court.

Re: jack

The saddest thing about that thread is how bad they try to change your mind to what they think and become hostel toward people who won't think there way. If you don't like my boat, so be it. Move on. There are plenty that do. Also if any Bayliner owner asks a question on the forum, they are answered by someone here with no problems. Once you put “quality” into the question the fur flies. Why do they take the advice of someone one day and the next they call you every name in the book and say that you are full of BS. The board should ban the words “Bayliner quality” in any post heading.

just so i can **** off EVERYONE at the same time....

i think it is better to run fully synthetic oil in your bayliner, and dont forget the smart tabs, too ! they fix EVERYTHING!

this is just a waste of bandwidth

Bondo, take a pill and relax buddy. It's called mass production. That's what keeps the costs down.

I said a few threads back that I know my 305 is an entry level 30 foot cruiser. So why are you trying to reinforce this with all the bold type? It's entry level, but it's not low quality. Which part of the above am I in denial about?

(EDIT)

f_inscreenname, I disagree with banning the words "Bayliner quality". Inevitably it generates spirited discussion and I think any educated person can weed through it and make an informed decision.

When you look at model homes, you see some kitchen counters are corian, some are granite, and some are formica laminated over particle board. Same with boats.

So you're saying that an incident that occurred in the mid to late 80's is indicative of the quality of the boats built today? You won't buy a Ford because they built Pinto's in the late 70's or Chevy's cause they built Vega's in the late 70's, et al? C'mon...let's get up to today friend. That's like comparing a P4 fully equipped computer today to an IBM PCjr. Give the 80's a rest. Everyone built some crap in the 80's. Three people were killed here on a 2003 Grady White in the Moriches inlet in 2003 when it went turtle. Does that make Grady White a piece of garbage and built poorly?

Let me ask a question concering a hull breaking apart and people having to be rescued by the USCG. Did your friend sue Bayliner? If there were inherent defects in the process or materials used to build the boat they would be liable. Do you think they would be in business today if that were a common occurrance with the litigious society we have?

Re: jack

I have determined one thing. The great thing about America is that complete brand snob (EDIT)can make enough money and buy a "prestige" boat, and then lord it over the rest of us.

I am going back to my sinking Bilgeliner now. But before I do, some thoughts on so-called "quality" boats....Sea Ray and their Balsa coring...a FAR more serious issue, in my opinion, than particle-board countertops:

http://www.yachtsurvey.com/searay_balsa_core_bottoms.htm

Re: jack

I want to add some fire...Balsa in "D" grain has a stronger tensil strength than any other wood type!!
I worked on a 19ft open bow a few years back and I couldn't tell ya the year model but it was an insurance job. The gal that owned the boat pulled up to the dock trying to get stopped, she hit the corner of the floating dock and put the corner through the front of the boat about 5ft back and about 1-1/2ft below the rub-rail. When I started removing the cracked material to get to good cloth, I found the side of this boat to be less than 1/8" in thickness..that seemed a bit shy to me. I believe the boat was an early 90's vintage, I'm not sure.
I spent the summer of 2004 on Texoma working at the second largest Marina on the lake with a few over 500 boats slipped there. I got to check out about every boat made from 20-55ft., and I can't say I was impressed at all with the searays there...270's, 290's, etc...This is just my opinion, but the best-built boats I seen where Carvers, but few have the money for that class of boat. Seen plenty of Maxxums too, they didn't appear too bad..???

I guess you are not tired of them cause you started another one. We all got a boat weather it was for style, looks, value, price and we can go on and on with this. I have looked at many boats when I was going to purchase mine, and I got my Bayliner cause it was taken care of and the price was in my budget. I am not a rich man and I put my money into my log home. So Bayliner was a good deal for me. I will tell you that when I hit the gas and she is up on plane and I am heading for the old fishing hole I feel like a King. She does just what I want and has not given me a problem. The problem all starts with the owners. When you see a boat out in the open to snow and all the elements then this boat will be a problem down the road. If one is cared for then it will be good to you. Our choice, I could have gotten a bigger one and a differant brand but this one was my choice and I got more then my moneys worth. Let drop this childish stuff and help others who can use the knowledge that you all have to help others instead. I am done with this and will not respond to anymore of this childish crap. Boat on

Re: jack

so what I am hearing hear is that a Bayliner doesn't offer the same quality as other boats. Quality for me is being out on the water with friends and family. Not having to worry about red lights and road rage. Catching some rays while listening to the radio and enjoying a cocktail or two. Can a Bayliner offer me this? If it can I think its worth me considering.

Re: jack

Bondo may indeed be right about skimping on materials. I am knee deep in restoration of a 1991 bayliner and just removed the carpet to durabak. what I found saddened me. the floor was in great shape aside from lots of annoying glue. however there was very litlle glass or resin if at all on the boards and what was there was chipping off. I am lucky to have decided to durabak, because had I never pulled it up, I had rotten floors in a couple of years. i have gotten damn good at gelling now.. putting on my final coats of glass this weekend. I still say though that I like the boat even though its a challenge, its not a total loss. I would hope that newer models are glassed better.. anyone have a newer capri?

Geez...can't we all get along? We are all boating nuts here...who cares if you have a dinghy or a motoryacht? Just be safe, take care of your float, and have fun!
