I have tried to keep my opinions on this thread upbeat(I know turning over a new tree for me right!), I will give credit to the Japanese as well as my thoughts and prayers, I will also give credit to Russia and China for sending help, truth be known I never thought those two countries would do anything to help so God Bless both countries as well as all of those countries helping out the best they can, as for North America no surprise Canada and the USA among the first to help the Japanese in every way possible.

I will say that I am not surprised at the lack of help from any country in the middle east that I have heard, I won't say the religion as I don't want to get the thread locked but I'm not happy about it at all

I think assistance has more to do with capability and expertise. If responders can't bring their own basic resources along with their knowledge set, then they are just more bodies in the way. This is a long way from over and is evolvong by the minute. The only thing we know for sure is that those people need help and support in any manner possible.

Good points Pirate, Well it looks like the Japanese are giving up on Fukushima 1, all four reactors lost and in various stages of meltdown, reuters is reporting the most serious radiation leak to be reactor 4 having exposed spent fuel pools but so far all four cores appear to be sealed at this point. Sad that after this I feel much more informed about the processes and safety measures taken by the Nuclear power field, on the bright side I have gained alot of respect for Nuclear power, I can say that even though this is a tragic situation I am a supporter of Nuclear power where as before I was on the fence, I didn't know that there has never been a fatality from Nuclear power in the free world, only at Chernobyl. Seems that the field has been black listed due to one accident that is largely discounted due to the complete lack of any safety measures taken in the construction and operation of chernobyl which I'm really not surprised at when you consider the overall reputation of Russia's safety measures as a whole at the time. Obviously this may change after Japan, the workers still fighting to keep Fukushima 1 under control may ultimately lose their lives for their efforts, I hope they are cherished as the heroes that they are.

I've been working with nuclear reactors since the early 70's in operations, maintenance, and radiation safety. My specialty is radiation protection. I'm saying this to let people know of my background.

The reports that we've been hearing from official sources seem plausable and accurate. There will be some terms that are misused by people without a technical background but for the most part, there does not appear to be any sort of coverup or attempt to hide anything. I'm not going to predict or second guess events or anyone, just wanted to put that out to people who are afraid that they're not getting the truth.

So far, it seems that the Japaneese authorities are providing accurate information and seem to be notifying their people as to the real dangers.

I'm not in anyway anything more then a dumb observer in this learning as I go from the experts, from what I have seen I would have to agree with you Pirate, The United States experts that were sent over have as well stating that the US would have done the same as the Japanese. I think the biggest concern was the news conferences, I watched most of them online and leading up until yesterday when the PM got involved it was getting uglier with each conference, seems TEPCO was clearly getting more and more frustrated that nothing was working, then having to be accountable to the people of Japan, I can understand stress... but that amount of stress? I think that at a certain point TEPCO should have just come clean instead of looking like they were unprepared or deceitful. With Japan's history I wouldn't be surprised in the least for a couple TEPCO executives commit suicide (in Japanese tradition) instead of take the humiliation that while undeserved IMO is undoubtedly heading their way. The Engineers and Nuclear minds that have been fighting this Nuclear power station have nothing to hide IMO they have fought valiantly but they are fighting mother nature and she always holds the trump cards

Prayers go out to all impacted by this event and lets hope that we can all pull together to help in the tragedy that is unfolding before us all. Coulda, shoulda, woulda time is now; what do we need to do to divert any further disasters.
