Below you will find a link to a 1991 Hydra-sport 20DC with 91 Rude 200.

This is listed by a private seller. Reportedly (and I've seen better pictures than shown on the link) the boat is in good condition (one owner) as is the trailer. The engine also is in good condition. I could make a good buy on this boat and here is my thinking:

I don't really care for the engine. Those old 200 hp used a lot of gas. However, I could pay for a lot of gas with the cost savings on the boat. In addition, I would expect to replace the engine with a 150 opti or e-tec (maybe 175) (good used 2004 model for instance) in the coming year.

I would not buy another engine unless and until I could get a really good buy. But even then, along with the engine, I would have to pay for new set up and I don't have any idea what it would cost to rig it with new cables, gauges, etc.

So - how would performance with 2004 150/175 compare with 91 rude 200?

What factors am I not considering that I should?

Thanks for your input again, guys.

First, btuvi, I am a fisherman. I evaluate boats according to their friendliness for fishing. Anything bigger than a 14' tinny or Jon must be a Boston Whaler.

An Optimax or etec 175 will use a lot less gas than a '91 200, pollute a lot less and not be as fast out of the hole or at WOT.

You are considering buying a hull. Nothing wrong with that but the price has to be right. MUCH less than the suggested asking price. Is this going to be an open water boat? Cant really say why but something looks wrong to me. Maby it is just the camera lens, I would think it would pound the hell out of you in rough water, looks to wide for its lenght. FRED
