Okay here's the deal. I have just about replaced every part and cleaned out every part on the carb on this thing and my arm is getting a little tired of cranking. Problem: It will start but only run for about 15 seconds then quits. Then I have to pull a bunch more times to get it to start and it does the same thing. Tried changing the jet settings but it doesn't even seem to effect it. Did notice that if I unplug the fuel line there is some sort of linkage that opens and closes something in the float bowl. And I have checked the fuel pump and it's working well.

Here is what I think could be wrong:

Installed something backward on the carb? Don't know how I could have but you never know.

And that's it! That's all I can think of. My only problem is I don't have a diagram of how it should be together.
Anybody have a diagram.

Maybe the previous owner put something back together wrong?

Re: JB is the man!

The problem is probably not in your carb.

Check fuel tank, lines and vents for restrictions or air leaks.

Check fuel pump for strong output.

Good luck. :)

Re: JB is the man!

JB you are great. Last night I went home and got the motor back out. Took plugs off and checked spark. Checked the points. Checked gas tank for restrictions. Removed carb and took it apart for the 7th time sprayed it out with carb cleaner. Reinstalled tried cranking and did the same thing. Checked the fuel line (pulled it off and cranked motor and it worked fine). So I was stumped. Then I remembered your post check vents. There is really only one going to the carb a small tube to vent the float bowl. Tried blowing in it and nothing. So hey now I'm getting some where. Seems dirt dobbers had built a nest in it. So I go to crank it and wow how about that it runs perfect.
So why would this cause a problem. Well the fuel in the float bowl in the beginning would flow out easily at first but as more fuel was sucked out there was no air to replace it so a vacuum would begin and eventually fuel would stop flowing. But every time the engine would stop air would flow backward from the fuel nozzle inside the carb. So the bowl would equalize pressure again. And I could start it again. And then go through the exact same thing over and over.

I will tell anybody out there that has a problem that JB is the man! :D
