I have two bites out of my scag. They are very small, not bigger than a silver dollar. I bet I'm going to get beat up for this but could I try JB weld? I can post a picture tomorrow if it helps.

I think I know my answer anyway. Don't be so cheep and get it fixed properly...;)

If you mean skeg, sounds like a plan to me. Clamp a piece of wood covered with wax paper to one side, tilt it so the skeg is horizontal, and thenadd the JB so it is above the plane. When cured, sand it down and it just might work.

If it fails, I would rather get a SkegGuard before I had someone weld my OB.

Just get it welded and go boating. Would cost you about $50

I've had the prop shop weld skegs for me and they turn out perfect. I thought if I bought a skeg guard, everyone would know I'm a dumb A$$. They weld them with the gear lube in it to protect from excess heat. Dave-R

Unless the visual appearance really bothers you, just ignore it. A notch or two out of the front will absolutely not affect your performance in anyway.

I doubt JB weld would hold for long, not enough surface area for the bond.

My take, have it welded or ignore it... I'd pull the lower unit and haul it down to the prop shop for repair.

I've used JB Weld to patch skeg chips like that....just put the JB Weld in there, let it harden, then file/grind/sand/paint and you're good to go.....my last repair was over 10 years ago and it's still on there just fine....

The boys at the shop have JB welded many a skeg with good results. I suggested they cut smallish grooves in the damaged area to get more surface area to bond to. If she don't hold then have it welded.

I did pretty much the same thing to the skeg on our Chap a few years ago, had the same half-circle holes-- I just took my trusty HF air cutter and used it to grind and smooth it down. Pic is a before-after- You can see I had to back cut it quite a bit, but it looked good and the boat didn't know it. :)

good for you..... howd u get a ding on that side of the skeg? backing up?

yes backing up. The bottom one was my last run on the lake. The water was down about 8 feet from the beginning of the year. I hit a rock and bent the prop and took out a small chunk. The circular chunk is... back up at the start of the year and a branch just about the size of the chunk got caught between the prop and skeg.

Both prop and skeg were fixed for $60
