Jerky power steering Mercuiser 5.0/V8 AlphaOne

I just bought a 1989 182se Celebrity bow rider with a Mercuiser 5.0/V8 AlphaOne. Had it out for the first time for 3 hours on Sunday. The last hour or so noticed a little jerkiness in the power steering. Got it home and checked. PS fluid was at the right level (stern drive was all the way up if that makes a difference) and the belt ?looked? good and had good tension.

I?ll be taking it to the marina soon for winterizing and storage and I?ll mention it to them. I?m just wondering your thoughts on what it might be. Thanks!

a little jerkiness

If jerkiness means it is smooth and then hard, I would say there is either a restriction or might have some crud in the pump. Suggest remove and empty the PS unit, remove the lines, then clean and blow them out.

More of a smooth with a stutter when turning. And it seemed only to be after running an hour two.
