jet pump doesen't turn with steering wheel in 73 sleekcraft

Ok so I just bought this boat and I failed to try the steering at the guys house, the seering wheel turns freely and the pump doesent move, he just took it to the water 3 weeks prior to me purchasing it ( I know him) What could be wrong? is it the steering cable? the steering wheel?

you are gonna have to dig in and find out.... the steering system transfers force from your hand to the wheel to the rack to the cable to the nozzle..... you will need to follow this path and see where the chain is broken anything else is just guessing

you think its a deal breaker? should it be an easy fix? im very mechanical, have always worked on my muscle cars but boats are 100% brand new to me...its my first one and I havent even went to the lake yet I thought this was going to bring my new family together (first born 5 months old)

lol you're looking at anywhere from $0.05 to a couple hundred.... FAR from a deal breaker..... mechanical is mechanical.... just dive in... you'll find the problem in short order.

I really do like the boat too, would LOVE to take it to the water.

the pump isn't involved in the steering system.... just the nozzle on the back... that stuff is plainly visible if you walk up the the back of the boat
