Hi all, I am new here!

I just aquired a small jetsled. It has a 50 merc. I am unsure of year, I have tried to remove the impeller to reshim it. I have done this before on a 80 merc. My problem is this. The impeller has not been removed in such a long time it is froze on the shaft. Any body have any tricks to suggest. Hours of PB blaster helped none. I tried pulling on the impeller with my hand while tapping shaft with runner mallet. Can I lightly heat the impeller with a solder torch to try to expand the impeller without damaging inder bearings or seals? Is there a method that employes some use of a puller?

TIA, Todd

If it's a plastic impeller you may have to cut it or break it off, very carefully. Maybe use a dremel to cut it up.

It is certainly a cast aluminum impellar. My old boat was a breeze to reshim the impellar. I hope someone else has a good suggestion.

Thanks, Todd

Try lodging a stick in the impeller, and turn the flywheel ccw. Some times this can break the corrosion. If not, I have used heat SPARINGLY. If at all possible remove motor from boat, turn upside down on an old couch cushin, and run your water hose in the jet outlet.Run water under the impeller very slowly as you heat the hub of the impeller. If you cant keep the seals cool, you might as well order some new ones and reinstall with the impeller. Both have worked for me on different motors. Good luck, let us know if you get it off.

Re: Jet pump impeller removal

Sorry guys for my not checking back:redface: I did get it off, finally! I ended up pulling the entire lower unit and driving the shaft out of the impellar. I did end up having to put all new seals in the bearing housing. So while I was there I put in a new water pump and slinger. I rebuilt the carbs, new floats, needles and seats. On my way, but still have some more to do. Again, sorry all.
