Re: Jet vs. IO pros & cons?

The modern Yamaha designs of the past several years ARE bowriders (no difference in hull design, 20-degree vee but with a 16" draft at idle.) Boating magazine in fact says they're the #1 selling bowrider in the country in volume sales in their class size. Not #1 jet boat, #1 bowrider. If someone took the Yamaha sticker off one you wouldn't think of it as being any different than any other bowrider - at least until you get the transom and find they've created a third seating area and there are no props (in fact the only moving part and the only metal in the water are the pump housings and their anodes.)

We have an '07 23 foot Yamaha and use it for boating, snorkeling, SCUBA, fishing, and tubing. With storage under every seat and a closet (which I do my best not to put a potti in) I can't imagine a more versatile boat.

Could a larger (18-21 ft) jet fullfill all the typical usage a comparable bowrider would? What I mean is, would you consider a jet of that size to be a decent multipurpose boat like a bowrider would be?

Also, how do jets hold up to salt compared to IOs?
