Re: Jetski justice

Here's my 2 cents about jetskis;
The wife, kids wanted them at the lake house,
I dished out the cash,
everyone rode them,full blast,
wore out the gas card on them, they take more gas than both my boats in one day(they run 27-7),
I had to fix them, pay tags ,lake fees,ETC.(big bucks).
Some one said that they were going to outlaw the 2 strokes on our lake,I ran with that
they never knew what hit them.

buying seadoos...........10,000
selling seadoos..........PRICELESS.

Re: Jetski justice

Several years ago New Jersey made a law requiring jetski riders to have a boating certificate. This reduced the numbers of jetskis greatly, best thing that could of happened. Before the law was passed there would be 25 or so jetskis wildly driving all over a local creek. After the law, the number is reduced to 4- 5 at a time.

Before the law was passed I had a personal incident with a jetski rider. I was out in my 19 foot bowrider (nice and heavy), and idling up the creek holding my 1 year old son, on a nice quiet, sunny, Saturday morning. A jet skier on a perpendicular course starts to pass behind me, but as he crosses my wake, he turns 90 degrees and proceeds to head directly for me at 30 MPH. As he gets closer, I expect he will change course, and not hit me. However as he gets closer still, I see he has his eyes closed, maybe he got salt water in them, however he is still on a collision course with me. I wondered what/if I should start to change course, but I was unsure which way to turn, since he would likely be making random course changes. I also wondered what would happen to my boat if he hit that flat full transom with his jet ski. I knew it would be bad for him!
I was just about to gun the motor and pick a direction which hopefully he wouldn't choose, when he opened his eyes and turned off.

Way back when, I used to fish out of a jon boat in Arizona. I always kept a pellet gun in the boat to get rid of jetskis. It worked really good.

Re: Jetski justice

you guys should be a bit more open minded, if a PWC is legal ( regs and insurance) they have every much of a right as you do to be there.

Ive got boats and pwcs, and I have to say that I have seen more boat captains with disregard for others than I have pwc operators with the same problem.

the morons who buy a seedo to do 180 degree circles from the ramp give us all a bad name.

the next time you see someone one a stand up type pwc, stop and say hi, youll be suprised by the attitude.

Oh and Rubber Frog, Id ride over to the ranger boat and youd have an assualt charge. Or Id shove that pellet rifle down your throat, depending how close my children were to your stupid and dangerous behavior.

Take your foot out of your mouth. The PWC's I was referring to were doing donut's around me. I don't care if your kid is on the back or not. Don't even think about swamping me. I'm the one that usually rode over to the ranger boat.
I wasn't out like a sniper looking for nice families enjoying a day out.
Take your anger and imagine being in a jon boat with your kid while some PWC is trying to swamp you. THERE is where you get mad....

Re: Jetski justice

My foot was never in my mouth, you never said you had pwc doing donuts around you. You simply said you carried a pellet rifle to "get rid of them" and then infered that you had used it to actually shoot at someone on a pwc.

Sorry, but regardless of the circumstance, that is not correct solution. If your life or your childs life was in immediate danger, do you want us to beleive that instead of leaving, you would stand your ground with a pellet rifle?

if they were, you should have talked to a ranger and had them dealt with.

jetski is a Brand name, made by kawasaki, if I had to guess, you were dealing with Seadoos, they seem to be the newbie bunch on the water ( something about cheap financing, and horribly designed but flashy looking craft).

No big deal, I do understand your anger, and Ive been in that boat, as well as the guy on the PWC trying to stay as far away from the bass boats as the terrain will allow, and still gotten the middle finger.

Re: Jetski justice

I can see the misunderstanding. Just so we're clear, I wasn't out hunting PWC's. I definately agree with reporting them. Unfortunately, that's not always possible when you launch from a back road dirt ramp and only have an electric trolling motor on a 7' boat.
With that said, I don't recommend anyone carry a pellet gun. I was 22 when I did that. Now, I'm 37. Ahh, the follies of youth.
Now days, I don't fish out of a jon boat. nstead of a pellet gun, my wife usually brings her video camera and films the culprit.

Re: Jetski justice

Now THAT is actually a great idea! I hadnt thought of!

we always have a digital and video camera on the boat or dock, and ive never thought to film the folks being dangerous.
But usually its not ENOUGH of an offense to stir any trouble, I just get mad when Im pulling hte kids on a a tube and other boats OR pwc, get anywhere near us ( in my opinon the 200 foot rule needs to be 500 yards!)

I hate jet skis always will no matter what you call them.

They are loud, they crowd our already crowded lakes. And they polute our water because there are so many of them. And most of them don't have a clue as to how to act on the lake. Period.

And just because something is legal doesn't make it morally right.

Rag on.

PWC aren't the problem....Ignorant people who don't know how to use them are.

My father in law has one and I have a blast when I ride it. It can be a lot of fun even if you follow the rules and regulations.

I go crazy with it and open it up. But I also make sure other boaters aren't around when I do it. There is plenty of room out there for everyone.

It's all in how you use it and where you use it and how much common sense the driver has.

I agree with big poppa. I like riding PWC's they are fun, limited in scope, but fun. I have seen just as many boaters act like morons on the water. It is all about respect and common courtesy. Some people have it, some dont. So dont rag on the item, rag on the people that misuse it.

Hey Big Poppa,
Are you from the news. I grew up there, graduated from Warwick in 86. Just wondering how long you been there. We might know some of the same people.
Later,

Re: Jetski justice

New to this forum, and this animosity is disappointing :( I own 2 PWC's, a mastercraft, and our family has a 23' Mariah. I have been on both ends of the PWC irritation. I'll be the first to say young kids (who have never been on a real boat) are dangerous on pwc's.
It's ignorant to say they are all bad, or to even joke about their emissions levels being higher than most boats.

Everyone here can sympathize with my irritation with the token bass fisherman who thinks he is also above the rules, crusing at 70 mph 20 feet from shore with no life jacket on and a beer in one hand. I have had my fair share of contact with fishermen on both my pwc's and Mastercraft. On the same token, the person who buys a crownline because they can, and rides like they are invincible is just as ignorant.

Re: Jetski justice

I too am one of those in both camps. I have my whaler and a Honda Aquatrax.

as far as poluting.....most of the newer models are CARB 2 & 3 rated. A lot better than my 1986 Merc 2-stroke. My honda is a quiet, clean burning 4-stroke.

I keep my distance from boats and especially people that are anchored fishing. I ride my ski as if I'm in my boat (unless I'm in an open area where I can cut up and not bother anyone....and yes, those 360 circles with water spraying is great)

It all boils down to respect and courtesy. A lot of people were just never taught that. I've had to chase down other "sea-doo" riders that come flying in our cove (which is clearly marked NO WAKE". These morons don't even know what a no wake zone is. (and I've chased down boats too - so it's not limited to just pwc). My ski will run 63. Most won't outrun me. I've stopped quite a few and took down their registration number. Said I'd notify the law if I saw them do it again. It's a no wake zone for a reason. If you don't know where the creek channel is, there is a sandbar out in front of my property that is only 6" below the water. It's marked with a white pole....I've seen 1 jet ski that came flying in the cove and then an immediate stop as he hit the sandbar. These idiots give us all a bad name. In the picture below, you'll see a green boathouse and to the right is a white pole. It kind of blends in with the picture. but between that pole and the boat house is the channel. to the right is the sandbar. The no wake zone starts about 300 yrds to the left of that pole (the way my wife is heading).....there's no reason for anyone to come flying at full speed 300 yrds into a no wake zone.

like I said, I've seen a lot of boats do it too....it's not the water craft....it's the idiot operators.
