Since most of us here do our own work I would guess we all change our own oil. I just saw a mini van that the oil filter was dated (felt marker) 12/2009, I asked the guy where he gets his oil changed and he said Jiffy lube and that he gets it changed every 6 months. He does not drive alot of miles so every 6 months seems reasonable to me.

I know the guy (he is my pastor) and I was changing his snow tires for him this weekend when I spotted the old oil filter. I am confident that Jiffy Lube has not been changing his oil filter.
I would recommend you use a felt marker and date the oil filter, then check to see if they change your filter after you pay for an oil change.
Thought some of you might find this interesting.

I have always changed my own oil, but recently I get the oil changed in my wifes honda at the dealer because they offer free oil changes for the life of the car since we bought the car their new. I have even checked on them to make sure a new filter was installed, I do not check every oil change because I would hope a deal would do a good job.

Re: Jiffy lube story for my starcraft buddies

I used Jiffy Lube for many years. I have three vehicles and for a long time two of them got a lot of mileage put on them (now fortunately only one does). I also worked near a mall that had a Jiffy Lube outside it so I would go over lunch, drop the car off, get a hair cut, eat some lunch in the food court, then pick up my car. It was great. However the constant bullsh(i)t has finally caused me to start doing it myself. First is the upselling of unneeded services. And they always say it's recommended by the manufacturer. BS. One of the cars is an '09 Accord we bought new. I've read the manual. Pretty much NOTHING is required to be done to that car other than oil changes and tire rotation until about the 90-100k mark. JL wants me to be changing tranny fluid and a zillion other things. Nope. Then there's the air filters they want to replace for $30+ when I can get them from Rock Auto for $6 (I will admit to having smugly refused to let them replace a Camry cabin filter for $35 and triumphantly went into Pep-Boys to buy one and the damn thing was $32  That was before finding Rock Auto). They showed me some plastic looking thing with oil sludge on it that I'm pretty sure didn't even come out of my vehicle trying to sell me an engine flush. They've told me twice the Honda ('09 40k miles) was low on coolant. First time I just said go ahead and top it off, second time I noticed on their screen that coolant was a $3 upcharge so I declined, checked it at home and of course it was fine. They've messed up my tires pressures more than once and I think they use a raw chicken breast to "clean" your windows. The clincher was the last time where they put my air box back on incorrectly which caused the engine to make a weird sound which made me think I had some sort of engine problem which cost me some time and aggravation. So now I do them all myself. The Jeep and the truck don't get driven too much so they get Mobil 1 and only done about twice a year. The Honda gets slammed with mileage but changing it isn't too bad if I use a jack. I will happily pay a shop to do it though if it's in for something else like state inspection or something. I've had it with Jiffy Lube.

couldn't agree more. we once had the drain plug threads in the oil pan stripped by one such place. where do you think the guys in the bottom 10% of their auto shop class go to work? (hint: it ain't the Porsche dealer...)
