Jl Audio Marine ??

I have a 1974 20' make Center console I am thinking about installing one M10IB5-4 which is a 10" sub in the front of the center console with a M6450 which is a 600 by 6 channel amp i dont want crazy bass i just want quality music any suggestions as far as this being enough i need more etc. thanks alot

I've got a 10" sub, 6 x 9's, and 51/2's in my truck and I would swear by them. They sound great. I'm sure the marine speakers are just as good, if not better.

My vote is for ear pods for everyone onboard. Might let the rest of us hear the birds chirping or the wind rustle through the trees.

Man, I remember when I was young, dumb, and full of....

I'd be in the same crowd. Wanted a Pioneer Super tuner then, with quad 6X9's biax or triax. Amps were 40 watt "sound blasters" and an in car equalizer was super custom and expensive. Sub woofs? Never heard of them.

That was the day.

Now, that I've used up all that testosterone, I'm with you. Take a nice easy ride and look at nature and the wonder of it all. Not domination, king of the water, look at me, but harmony, peace and tranquility.

Don't get me wrong, I like a little romp now and then, but it's very few and far between. More often than not, in the end of it, it's just not worth it.

Regardless your taste in music or what you think acceptable volume is we should still try to answer the man's question.

The Marine JL subs are all Free-Air subwoofers which do require a different approach for proper sound, they work in an infinite baffle setup meaning the enclosure can be of most any sizes. A common misconception is they do not require an enclosure or that the enclosure can be anything (including leaky). When working with a free-air speaker it is still very important to ensure that there is no possible way the sound waves generated from the front of the sub can interact with the ones coming from the rear of the sub or inside the enclosure. If these soundwaves are allowed to interact the bass will cancel itself out and be very faint.

I am not sure of your exact setup or where you will be installing this subwoofer but treat it like a sub you can install in a huge sealed enclosure as long as the box / seat bottom etc is isolated enough from the front of the sub you will get a great sound from them. The 6 channel amplifier should provide plenty of punch for all around great sound from your setup.

JL, MTX, & Kenwood all have exceptional marine gear.

NOTE: the acoustics in a boat (or lack of) are NOTHING like being inside of your car where the sound can bounce around and be reflected, you can get good sound on a boat you just have a few more things working against you.

I will try to keep it down for the bird and sea lion watchers, lol! I am not trying to create a floating night club I just want something that will enhance the music that is playing.

I will be mouting it facing the bow of the boat in my center console every opening in the console does have a hatch to keep it closed and the speaker will be mounted at shin level so the sound might bounce off the walls of the boat
