Re: JoAnns Fabric Vinyl
Problem with JoAnn's (and with Cabelas' or West Marine for that matter) is that you don't
really know what quality of vinyl you're getting (yes, there are DEFINITE differences in abrasion resistance, thickness of the vinyl layer, depth of the color layer in the vinyl layer, elongation/tear resistance due to quality of scrim, etc.), and they don't always have the same stuff from the same supplier as time goes by (what if you need another matching yard or three in a month?)
I've worked with lower-end stuff from the stores named above, and with cheapy EBAY specials; all were not worth a damn (fast abrasion wear, poor UV stability). IMO, avoid them.
The best quality "reasonably priced" vinyl I have worked with is Midship from J. Ennis. But that stuff's still kinda expensive (typically $16-20 / yd).
The best quality vs. price point vs. color selection I have come across is Morbern "Mellohide" "Biscayne" vinyl. Normally goes for anywhere from $10-12/yd, but this guy sells it for $8.25 a yard, which is a steal for this quality:

You can look up all it's specs on Morbern's website. Can you do that with off-the-shelf stuff at JoAnn's? Or low-end no-name stuff from any source?
