Joe Reeves is very helpful and informative with ACCURATE answers each time.

Thank you Joe! Today I am going to take out the lower/upper access screws and drain the gear lube out of my '82 4.5hp evinrude. I read in another post that I just add new lube into the lower hole until it oozes out the upper hole and replace the screws (including new nylon seals). Should I flush it before adding new lube? Is there a certain gear lubrication you would recommend?

Hit Ranger,

Just about any lube designed for marine lower units will do.

The best would be "Hi-Vis" available at Johnson/Evinrude dealers.

You might want to purchase the little pump that screws into the quart bottles. VERY HANDY. John/Rude dealers sell that as a kit.
