The 28 SPL was a pontoon motor basically. Complete 30hp powerhead ( pre 1985 35hp is same thing ) on a pre 1985 25hp leg.. The leg adds a bit of drag but a pontoon boat of that era does not plane so it was a perfect party barge motor.

And carbs pre '84 were butterfly choke and carbs after that are primer carbs

So, I picked up this motor. Pretty clean and it runs fantastic and starts with a pop of the key cold. However the serial/ model tag is washed off. It's there but it's blank. The motor was still partially rigged to his boat right out in the open in a nice neighborhood so I don't think there was any theft happening. I think it's a 30 year old motor and stuff happens

How can I identify the year? It has the 100:1 decal so I know it's not too late. I'm more curious if it's a '88 or later as up to '87 according to the IPL's the carbs for 20 and 25hp were the same and just the intake was different

I got it for $650 with a set of nice controls so I don't think I did bad at all.
