Johnson 100 HP. How good are they.

Hi all i am looking at a 100hp Johnson today and need some input on them. Now i dont have the Ser# but the bottem is black with a white hood. I know that is not much to go on but it is all i have at this time. I am thinking mid 80's to maybe first part of the 90's. Any help will be welcome. Thank You.

it's the old reliable V-4 series of engines. more info. model #

It a 71 model and dosent look like it been run all that much. It has hydro EL shift. I have read on here to stay away from the EL Shift-is this right. Thanks.

here you can read about them, they can be very frustrating. and parts availablity is a problem. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=166519&highlight=electric+shift

if the motor does not come with controls, forget it. a good set of controls are expensive.
