I have this Johnson 100 hp engine and I would like to find a service manual but I cannot find any numbers on the motor.
This came on my 71 Glastron V163 but i'm not even sure of the year of the motor.
Serial # somewhere I don't know about or can't see???
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Mark

model identification 2.jpg Not sure if an engine of this age would have the serial/model stamped on the core plug on the top of the block. Have a look. The core plug is about the size of a quarter and surely has been painted over. If it has a stamped plug, that info will tell you the age. See pic of a similar plug from a later engine.

Thanks for the replies.
I have never had the engine running but the guy I bought it off of said it did but it has been a few years since.
I'll see if I can find that plug after work today.

That would be a 1971 motor.-------You are aware of the wildly expensive ignition parts ?------Aware of troublesome nature of this ignition system ?----------It does have the hydro-electric shift which is a very good system.

Not aware of the wildly expensive ignition parts or the troublesome nature of these ignitions.
What is your definition of wildly expensive ?
I grew up with points ignition systems so I am familiar with them. I take it the dual point system is the same concept at an automotive dual points system?
It does have the hydro-electric shift.
I'm looking forward to learning about these motors, it's something different for me
