1990 Johnson 115 runs great until a load is put on the engine and then it will die. Took the cover off, noticed thin layer of oil around the VRO area, checked for leaks but found nothing, the oil around the vro is not excessive like a leak. Next, I put the engine flusher on, started the motor, set to idle for about 3 minutes, no leaks, but the motor just did not sound right, the engine had developed a strange put-put sound around the air intakes on the side of the VRO. Then I noticed white smoke puffing out of a small hole approx 3-5" below and 3-5" toward the back of the engine, almost directly under the VRO, located around the attachment of the carbs to the engine block. The hole has threads, so I am wondering what the heck goes in the hole and why is white smoking coming out the hole. I also think this is producing the thin layer of oil around the area of the VRO. Cannot afford $79.00 per hour, can someone help a novice boat owner/wannabe mechanic. Please
