johnson 115 electrical problem

I have a '79 johnson 115, when i am parked with the engine off my radio works perfectly. But when I start it the radio cuts out at higher than idle RPM's. I thought it was the radio so I ditched it and went to a amp instead and just hook an ipod to it. Still same thing, the amp is hooked directly to the battery along with the remote wire i just have on a little switch. When it shuts off if i turn off the motor it turns right back on. I am usually very good with electronics but this one has me stumped. Is it a ground issue with the motor or is something electrical going wrong with my motor?? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!! Very interesting. The only thing that comes to mind is that the voltage increases when the alternator is charging. Also, do you now have both the + and - from the amp going directly to the battery?

Whether it has anyting to do with it or not, the battery connections are vital on that motor. You must keep them cleaned shiny bright and tight. Ignoring it is expensive when you blow the alternator rectifier and (ignition) amplifier.

Yes the pos. and neg. are going directly to the battery. The terminals are good and clean, and it is a brand new battery.
