Hi Guys,

I'm looking at a 1984 20' Sportcraft with the above motor V4, VRO. I've looked high and low for the Model number tag and can't seem to find it. It has power steering and one of those extension mounts on it, but no numbers on anything. I took the cowl off and had a look inside but couldn't see anything which sounded like a model number. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Look for a core plug about the size of a quarter on the power head. Post that # back and I'm sure you'll get help. Power steering on a V-4 ??? The model # is usually on one of the stern brackets.

Yes I did see that plug, I'll get that number and some pictures tomorrow....couldn't make out the name on that bracket but it looked like C-Drive...also saw a tag that said to set timing 28 degrees BTDC.

model identification 2.jpgThis is the casting plug you are looking for atop the block. They do vary somewhat by year.
This one has both the serial and model number. Normally this will match the info on the rivet plate on the transom bracket.

Yes I saw that plug, right on top, there was no plate where it should have been. The seadrive is about 18" to 24" long moving the motor away from the transom, I actually had my feet on it while lifting the cowl off....here is the CL link but it doesn't show the engine.... 20' Sportcraft and a dastardly looking waterline, supposedly necessitated from heavy fishing gear on the back deck. Would just that 115 sink the rear of that 20' boat that badly?

I'd like to see the back of the boat to see exactly what it is.
