The tilt tube on my 1980 Johnson 140 unit needs replacing due to excessive corrosion. The power head, exhaust housing and steering arm have all been removed, and the nuts have been removed from each end of the tilt tube. Does anyone have any hints how to get the tilt tube out? I've tried banging one end with a 4lb hammer but it's not budging.

nothing but heat will work since it has been there awhile, heat the transom bracket to free it up,not to hot don't want to puddle the aluminum there is a long cut off tool that snap-on makes that would let you cut the tube on the inside making removal easy,I use it on cylinder sleeves to spilt them for removal
